Erik ten Hag is reportedly happy for Manchester United to listen to offers for Antony in January – less than 18 months after splashing out £82million on the former Ajax forward.
The Brazil international, 23, flourished under Ten Hag in Amsterdam but has struggled to replicate those dazzling displays in the Premier League since his mega-money transfer last summer. And after a difficult maiden campaign, things have got even worse for Antony, who has failed to register a single-goal contribution in 12 appearances this term.
Antony’s poor performances have frustrated fans and he was even booed during United’s recent win over Fulham – and it now seems as though Ten Hag’s patience with the winger is also wearing thin.
According to a new report from The Sun, not only is Ten Hag expected to receive a sizeable transfer budget in the January transfer window courtesy of prospective Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but he is also willing to consider offers for Antony, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial in the New Year.
The fact that Ten Hag is seemingly willing to cut his losses on Antony represents a dramatic turnaround given he stood by the winger during several lean spells last year. The same report outlines that the Dutchman is planning to ‘reset’ his squad in January and has a winger on his transfer wishlist – hinting Antony could fall down the Old Trafford pecking order if he does end up staying at the club.
Much like Antony, Sancho has failed to live up to expectations since joining United for a significant transfer fee. Martial’s time at the club has been plagued by injuries but he too has failed to live up to his potential.
