Harry Maguire thinks Manchester United’s form is slowly turning around after an awful start to the campaign for the club.

Erik ten Hag enjoyed an excellent first season at Old Trafford, but the performances this time around have been unconvincing and the pressure has mounted on the manager following a string of poor results.

Ahead of facing Luton Town, Ten Hag spoke in his press conference about the importance of winning ahead of the international break and United were able to secure a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Victor Lindelof.

The narrow win means United now have 21 points in the Premier League table and they are closing in on the top four places.

Maguire spoke to MUTV after the Luton match and he gave his thoughts on a range of topics, from the performance, how difficult it was against the Hatters and what the team must improve on this season.

“It’s about winning. Of course we want to play amazing football, perfect football, entertain crowds and score lots of goals, but some games aren’t like that. It was tough out there,” Maguire said.

“We did create a lot of chances, very good chances in the first half and we have to be more clinical. They’re a physical side, they’re well organised and they’ll win football matches this season, I’m sure.

“They made it tough for us, but like I said, if we score the first goal [earlier], we can be more ruthless on the counter-attack. They gave us the opportunity to score the second and we maybe should have done that better.

“But the lads showed a great side of themselves today and we had to dig deep for the three points. It’s nice to go into the international break with the win.”

Maguire continued: “I think we can do a lot better, improve a lot more. We had a slow start to the season, but I think our form is slightly turning around. It was a really unfortunate game in the week, with big decisions going against us.

“It cost us the game. We were in control and if we’d won that one, we’d be in a great position in terms of qualifying, so we’ve got a big game coming up against Galatasaray and we have to play like we did against Copenhagen.”

Maguire also praised Lindelof and stressed the importance of having multiple players capable of chipping in with goals.
