Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland praise one ‘incredible’ Manchester United star after derby

Manchester City beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford in another painful derby match-up.

Back in January there was lots of optimism after United beat City 2-1 at Old Trafford. This past Sunday’s result provided lots of negatives.

City won the game 3-0, underlining that the gulf between the two teams is not being bridged by Erik ten Hag’s side.

But if you are searching for something to be just a little bit positive about, then it was Andre onana,s performance.

Pep Guardiola praises Andre Onana

Andre Onana made seven saves for Manchester United against City, playing a key role in keeping the scoreline respectable.

No save was better than his two-handed diving stop to parry away an Erling Haaland header from point blank range at at the end of the first half.

The save was praised by City boss Pep Guardiola, who told BBc sports : “Erling had an incredible chance at the end of the first half and Onana makes an incredible save.”

Guardiola also praised his own goalkeeper after he kept out a Scott McTominay effort at the other end.

“They had one chance with McTominay and Ederson makes a great save but in the second half, after the second goal, we were at our highest.”

Striker Erling Haaland added to the praise for Andre Onana, and also picked out one of his saves after half-time.

He told city’s media : “It was an incredible save right before the half time. He did another fantastic save in the second half when I chipped it, he saved it with his head. It is what it is. We won

Andre Onana was arguably Manchester United’s best player on the pitch, which sadly told it’s own story about the outfield players.

He made a crucial penalty save in midweek against Copenhagen to secure a win, which has clearly lifted his confidence and can act as a turning points in his United career.

It is good to see him playing well. He has been solid since the international break.

If he performs like this, then it’s one less problem for Erik ten hag  to deal with, because he has his hands full everywhere else.
