Three Manchester United players who should be dropped for the derby

Manchester United prepare to face off against Manchester City in the first Manchester derby of the new season.

Erik ten hag Manchester United have won three games on the spin for the first time this season but to make it four in a row against last season’s treble winners will be no easy feat.

After the manner in which United won the Champions League game against Copenhagen, there may well be some tough decisions that need to be made by Ten Hag.

Here are three players who may well need to be dropped for the game on Sunday.

Manchester United v F.C. Copenhagen: Group A - UEFA Champions League 2023/24

Marcus Rashford

Perhaps the most high-profile name on this list is Marcus Rashford. The English forward, who scored 30 goals last season, has simply not been good enough.

With just one goal to his name this season, the United academy graduate has struggled for consistency and fluffed another big chance against the Danish side on Tuesday.

Alejandro Gernacho , who also fluffed a big chance against Copenhagen, deserves a chance and what better way to take his chance than by making a big impact in the Manchester derby.

Patrick McTominay Though his recent goal-scoring exploits may not come as a big surprise, Scott McTominay has not been good for the Red Devils. The midfielder against Sheffield United has only completed 8 passes, proving that he is anything but a midfielder. Having conceded penalties in consecutive games, he is most effective when he is in the opposition’s box rather than his own. The introduction of Mason Mount or Hannibal Mejbri to the team would significantly enhance the midfield dynamic by providing much-needed bite and energy. Reguilon, Sergio The Spanish defender may not want to start against the highly mobile City winger Jeremy Doku because he has only recently recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained against Burnley in September.

Victor Lindelofe , when he came off the bench against Copenhagen, looked much more assured defensively than the former Sevilla left-back.

Not playing an attacking left-back may well harm the team cohesion going forward but that may well be necessary due to the attacking talent that City possesses. A defensive approach has worked in the past with Aaron Wan-Bissaka previously excelling.
